Stephanie

Sadly breast cancer runs in my family on both sides.  My mother had it twice, but ultimately died in 2009 from lung cancer, I was her caregiver.

Two years after her death, I found a lump in my left breast that was diagnosed as Stage 2 triple negative breast cancer.  The look on people's faces when you say triple negative is scary in and of itself!

After a double mastectomy with a tram flap procedure, and removal of ovaries, I entered into 14 weeks of Chemotherapy, the most aggressive treatment for the most aggressive cancer.  I was told my particular cocktail was nicknamed "the red death".  As a single mother battling this alone may have been a sad story, but luckily for me I was surrounded by the best friends and family who carried me through in all the loveliest ways.  It changed me for the better forever.  As a new member of Hope Afloat, I am looking forward to knowing all of these strong bad ass ladies as I try to keep up with them!  Thank you for the warmest welcome.
